As a Leading Company (Veturi) partner in the FORECO project, Meyer Turku plays a key role in strengthening collaborative foresight across the maritime ecosystem. The future of the maritime industry will be shaped by interconnected technological, regulatory, environmental, and societal changes that no single organization can fully understand alone. Studying these trends at an ecosystem level enables shipyards, suppliers, researchers, technology companies, customers, and public stakeholders to build a shared understanding of emerging opportunities and risks. This collective perspective helps align innovation, strengthen collaboration, and improve the industry’s ability to anticipate and respond to future change.
Rethinking maritime planning
The maritime sector is facing rapid socio-technical transitions, most notably the requirement for decarbonization and the integration of applied artificial intelligence. In such a high-complexity, long-lead-time environment, planning within organizational
silos is no longer sufficient.

From in-house foresight to ecosystem orchestration
A central objective of Meyer Turku is to utilize FORECO’s research to build a Maritime Foresight Handbook. This customized “playbook” will define the processes, trust protocols, and AI tools necessary for ecosystem members to share sensitive future-oriented data safely.
By bridging the gap between theoretical research and industrial practice, Meyer Turku aims to address the so-called cognitive debt associated with large amounts of unstructured foresight data, ensuring that strategic decisions remain differentiated and adaptive.
Through Work Package 4, Meyer Turku provides a real industrial environment where the approaches developed in FORECO can be tested and refined. The Marine Test Bed brings together Meyer Turku and strategically selected ecosystem partners to explore how organizations can collaborate, share future-oriented insights, and evaluate possible industry developments. By applying these methods in a practical setting, the project ensures that the tools and practices developed are relevant, effective, and applicable to real maritime industry challenges.
